Election Interference
Expectation | Actual | |
1 | Candidates are locked in 30 days before the election. | Tim actively recruited a candidate after the deadline and injected him into the system closer to the AGM date than the Condo Act rules allowed. |
2 | The candidate’s platform be an opportunity to call out current issues and present fixes | Property management asked me to remove my entire platform with threatening language. |
3 | The board have an impartial, hand’s off approach to the election. | Tim used the resources of the corporation, such as the private list of emails of all owners and the mail server, to influence election results. As the other candidates (myself) did not have access to the list of emails or the email server, that gave Tim’s candidate an unfair advantage and is a conflict of interest and abuse of power. |
4 | Votes can be cast only once. | Tim publicaly called upon owners to change their votes away from me once they were cast |
3 Censorship
Here is an email thread where the board and ICC tried to censor my platform, but then backed off when I stood my ground.
Hi Randy,
A review of your candidacy submission has found some defamatory statements in it, specifically on the first three pages. Please immediately re-write/resubmit them or, if time doesn’t allow, we can remove them, leaving in the rest and let the community know that the defamatory pages have been removed, okay?
Sorry for the rush but the deadline is upon us.
Respectfully yours,
James
Hi James,
Whatever your opinion is about my candidacy submission, it is my final candidacy submission and I do not give permission for it to be altered in any way.
Randy
Noted, Randy, and I’ll ensure the BoD is aware of your position. Thanks for getting back to me.
Respectfully yours,
James
Sure thing.
Can you clarify:
1 If it is the board or ICC Property Management that have made the decision to censor the document.
2 Which specific sentences are defamatory on each of page 1, 2, and 3? In particular, in order to be defamatory, I have to be knowingly spreading false information. If one of my statements is false, please let me know which, so that I can correct the falsehoods in that one statement.
3 Who the statements are defamatory against:
An individual person,
the board of directors as an entity,
ICC Property management the condo corporation as a whole.
Please confirm that this document, as part of the AGM package, is a private internal document only shared among owners.
A reminder, that in private communication among owners about their elected board, no matter how negative, cannot be liable or defamation, especially when the negativity is based in factual information or personal opinion, and criticizes the actions of the board as a whole, and does not contain personal attacks against board members.
Frivolous use of the word “defamation” or “liable” in an attempt to interfere with board elections is a serious matter. I would like a response to this email even if you decide not to censor my candidacy, after you send out the AGM package this morning.
Finally, Formal notice of the AGM including my candidature was supposed to go out last night. You are in violation of the Condo Act in both your interference and your delay. Please send this out immediately.

Thanks,
Randy
I forwarded these emails to the Condo Authority of Ontario, and CAO Staff described Tim’s conduct as “shocking”.

Wishing you a bright and joyous Diwali.
Sending love and light this Diwali and all year long.
Happy Halloween.
Too bad the building isn’t really doing anything for Halloween this year. Here are some ideas for next year:
Pumpkin carving, trick-or-treating, all ages
- Order a crate of pumpkins and give them away to residents for free!
- Have a pumpkin carving contest with a small prize for the winner.
- Display pumpkin carvings on the sculptures on Halloween night.
- Have a communal box of treats at the lobby for trick-or-treaters.
Costume Contest & pre-drinking party 1`8+
- Host an early evening Halloween pre-drinking party so that residents can show off their outfits, socialize, have a drink and get their photo taken before heading on to the next party.
- Post photos of resident’s outfits and let everyone vote on the best costume.
